The Bhagavad Gita (The Song by God), often referred to as the Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture, which is part of the epic Mahabharata. It forms the chapters 23–40 of book 6 of the Mahabharata called the Bhishma Parva. The work is dated to the second half of the first millennium BCE. It is considered one of the holy scriptures of Hinduism. The Bhagavad Gita is set in a narrative framework of dialogue between the Pandava prince Arjuna and his charioteer guide Krishna, an avatar of lord Vishnu. In this class, learn to read, and decipher the meaning of Gita shlokas and relevant grammar.

VI RAMAYANA - SATURDAY - 1.30PM – 2.30PM | Dr. Nandakumara MBE

The Ramayana is a Sanskrit epic from ancient India, one of the two important epics of Hinduism, the other being the Mahābhārata.  The epic, traditionally ascribed to the Maharishi Valmiki, narrates the life of Rama, a prince of Ayodhya in the kingdom of Kosala. The epic follows his fourteen-year exile to the forest urged by his father King Dasharatha, on the request of Rama's stepmother Kaikeyi; his travels across forests in the Indian subcontinent with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana; the kidnapping of Sita by Ravana, the king of Lanka, that resulted in war fought with the help of Hanuman and Sugriva; and Rama's eventual return to Ayodhya along with Sita to be crowned king amidst jubilation and celebration.

In this class, learn to read, and decipher the meaning of Ramayana shlokas and grammar which includes ‘Sandhis’ and ‘Samanas’. To get familiar with the Sanskrit language, there is no book that is more suitable than the Ramayana. Arguably the most fluent usage of Sanskrit language is seen in the Ramayana text.
